If you read the novel or listened to the audiobook, you already know that Professor Heslin is a key character and is instrumental to the Dead Hunt story. He’s an inconsolable scientist who will not accept the death of his little girl. Everything he does is the epitome of a father’s love – Dead Hunt is the story of what happens when that love drives a man towards a goal whose very success means the collapse of the world as we know it.
Of all the roles in the upcoming movie, Professor Heslin was the most sought-after role, and deciding who landed this iconic role was not to be taken lightly.
All the video auditions I received were great, but there could only be one Heslin, and one video stood out amongst the others… I contacted Darren Andrea and invited him over for a coffee to talk about film-making. We had a great chat, and my 2-hour conversation with this down-to-earth guy solidified my decision… a handshake later we had our Professor Heslin.
Darren has a world of experience and is no stranger to film. He has worked on:
- Love You to Death (1989)
- Outcast (1990)
- The Undertaker’s Wedding (1997)
- How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days (2003)
as well as several TV shows such as:
- La Femme Nikita
- Forever Knight
- Top Cops
- Katts and Dog
- Kung Fu – the Legend Continues
- Leap Years
- Once A Thief
as well as an extensive list of National and International commercials and several plays including The West Side Story, The King and I, The Canterville Ghost, Oliver and others including Fort Petrie – a play he wrote and directed.
Darren and I will also be working on another film project we hope to start shooting in a couple of weeks, but I’ll save that announcement for another time. Today I’d like you to help me welcome Darren Andrea to the Dead Hunt family!
